Provo's official weather readings are taken daily about 5:00 pm by the Geography Department at Brigham Young University. The weather station is located south of the BYU campus hill near 450 East 800 North in Provo (not on the bench!).  This has been the location of the official Provo climatological station for the National Weather Service since 1980.  Normals are calculated from the period of 1971-2000 and reflect the BYU-east Provo weather station location.  Most of the earlier weather stations in Provo were located on the west side of town (away from the mountains and near Utah Lake) where precipitation averages 6" less per year and temperatures average 3-5 degrees cooler than the current weather station.   In any case, Provo has one of the longest periods of weather records in Utah - dating back to 1889.  Temperature and precipitation extremes found in the tables above include the years 1889-2007.  Provo's historical climate data is provided courtesy of the Utah Climate Center, Utah State University, Logan Utah.  Send questions or comments about this Provo Climate page to David James at Pleasant Grove Jr. High School, 810 N. 100 East, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062 or E-mail David James.  The phone number is 801-785-8707.  For other Utah weather information, see the National Weather Service, Salt Lake City and the Utah Center for Climate and Weather (UCCW).
